1. Each Union institution or body shall designate a data protection officer. 2. Union institutions and bodies may designate a single data protection officer for several of them, taking into account their organisational structure and size. 3. The data protection officer shall be designated on the basis of professional qualities and, in particular, expert knowledge of data protection law and practices and the ability to fulfil the tasks referred to in Article 45. 4. The data protection officer shall be a staff member of the Union institution or body. Taking into account their size and if the option under paragraph 2 is not exercised, Union institutions and bodies may designate a data protection officer who fulfils his or her tasks on the basis of a service contract. 5. The Union institutions and bodies shall publish the contact details of the data protection officer and communicate them to the European Data Protection Supervisor. |
