Chinese Four Celestial Animals--- white tiger ( 4 of 4 ). Chinese Four Celestial Animals Four celestial animals: dragon, phoenix, tiger, turtle design, other side with four celestial animal introduce. According to ancient Chinese cosmology (dated from around 6,000 BC), the universe was divided into four quadrants marking the beginning and end of the winter and summer solstices and the fall and spring equinoxes (see yin yang). Each quadrant was visible in its entirety only in the season with which it is associated. These heavenly quadrants were called the Four Celestial Palaces, and each palace was represented by a guardian animal, the Dragon - Spring, Phoenix - Summer, Tiger - Fall and Turtle - Winter. Dragon: Also known as dragon is the highest spiritual power, the divine power of change and transformation, the rhythms of nature, supernatural wisdom and strength. It is often portrayed carrying the pearl of wisdom, enlightenment and spiritual essence of the universe. The Azure Dragon represents Spring and the direction East. Phoenix: It's various elements represent the cosmos: The head of a cock is the sun, the back of a swallow is the moon, it's wings are the wind, it's tail are the trees and flowers and it's feet are the earth. The phoenix is a universal symbol of resurrection and immortality, of death and rebirth by fire. The phoenix represents summer and the direction south. Tiger: The white tiger represents authority, courage, prowess and fierceness needed for protection. It also represents autumn and the direction west. When the celestial tiger is paired with the celestial dragon (green) it provides supreme protection and good fortune. Turtle: This turtle (synonymous with tortoise) is also referred to as the Black Warrior because of its strength, endurance and longevity. It represents winter and the direction north.

Lang Syne Products Scottish Clan Crest Tartan Information History Fact Book - Robertson. Tracing a descent from Irish monks who became associated with a monastery at Dull, on the shores of Loch Tay, and at Dunkeld, the Robertsons of today are heirs to a truly rich and colourful heritage – tinged with a touch of the supernatural. The name was first adopted by Donnachaidh, or Duncan, who fought with his kinsfolk at the side of Robert the Bruce at the battle of Bannockburn in 1314. It was after pulling the clan standard from the ground before advancing on the enemy that they saw an eerie gleam of light reflected from the hole in the earth where the standard had been placed. The light was reflected from a mysterious crystal ball and, following Bruce’s great victory, was henceforth considered to be a lucky talisman. Much cherished, the crystal remains in the possession of the clan to this day.

Phrenology (from Greek: phren, mind; and logos, knowledge) is a method of determining personality traits and tendencies primarily by taking measurements of the human skull and its various structures, based on the concept that the brain is the organ of the mind, and that certain brain areas have localized, specific functions or modules that are reflected in the shape of the skull covering a given area. Skulls like this were used as reference books by Phrenologists. 8 1/2 high, 7 wide at the base, the head itself is 5 deep. (note some words are printed dark or faintly to add authenticity and individuality.).

Estia Creations Antikythera Mechanism Sculpture The Ancient Greek Analogue Computer. The Antikythera mechanism is an ancient analogue computer and orrery used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses for calendrical and astrological purposes, as well as the Olympiads, the cycles of the ancient Olympic Games. The artefact was recovered probably in July 1901 from the Antikythera shipwreck off the Greek island of Antikythera.Believed to have been designed and constructed by Greek scientists, the instrument has been dated either between 150 and 100 BC, or, according to a more recent view, in 205 BC. After the knowledge of this technology was lost at some point in antiquity, technological artefacts approaching its complexity and workmanship did not appear again until the development of mechanical astronomical clocks in Europe in the fourteenth century. All known fragments of the Antikythera mechanism are kept at the National Archaeological Museum, in Athens, along with a number of artistic reconstructions of how the mechanism may have looked.( B153-1) Details: Condition: New, reproduction handmade in Greece. Approximately Height: 13.5cm - 5.3 inches Width: 11cm - 4.3 inches Weight: 420g Material: Casting stone.

The Ibis Print Gallery - Albrecht Durer : ''Stag Beetle'' (1505) - Museum-Grade Giclee. It is indeed true, wrote Albrecht Dürer, that art is omnipresent in nature, and the true artist is he who can bring it out. The Stag Beetle is one of Dürer's most influential and most copied nature studies. Singling out a beetle as the focal point of a work of art was unprecedented in 1505, when most of Dürer's contemporaries believed that insects were the lowest of creatures. Dürer's keen interest in nature, however, was a typical manifestation of the Renaissance. This beetle, rendered with such care and respect, seems almost heroic as he looms above the page. Dürer probably made this drawing in the studio, based on quick sketches from nature and memory. The level of finish shows that he considered it an independent work of art, not a preparatory study. He used bodycolor to show volume, as in the hard, convex outer wings. Transparent washes represent light effects, such as the shadow cast by the body, which the legs raise off the ground. Seen up close, the creature's legs and spiky mandibles suggest its kinship to imaginary beasts in late Gothic depictions of Hell or the temptation of Saint Anthony Abbott. The Big Book on Fencing - by Rudy Volkmann. Magnum Libre d'Escrime You can’t learn to fence from a book, but you can learn significant things about fencing. Written for the average American fencer, this 271-page text has gotten must buy reviews from the British and Dutch fencing federations as well as by current president of the American Fencing Coaches Association (the USFA does not review fencing texts). Included are sections on history, pedagogy, tactics, directing, repair (Dr. Volkmann’s celebrated repair manual is one of the sections), and the plans for a fencing dummy. The main part of the text, though, is a highly illustrated encyclopedia of all the moves used in foil fencing, which includes the theories behind the moves and positions, and detailed explanations of what goes wrong when trying to learn them. Just the section on stance, advance, retreat, lunge, and recovery types take over thirty detailed pages.
