Designed by Alessandro Mendini, this is a wrist watch with a leather strap and case in steel. The end of the 1990s marked the most recent stage of evolution at Alessi. At the end of a process of development and evolution lasting approximately thirty years, the “Dream Factory” has turned from a more or less traditional industrial company into a “research laboratory in the field of applied arts”. The millennium has witnessed extensive new developments at Alessi. Collaborations have been formed with other companies in manufacturing contexts very different from Alessi’s original dedication to small objects for the home and kitchen. The company offers its skills in design management and its vision of design as a global creative discipline to companies operating in product spheres unconnected with its original domestic field. Alessi’s aim is to give life to new objects characterised by that mix of eccentricity and style, playfulness and culture, irony and elegance which has become synonymous with the Alessi name. One of the first licensing projects run by Alessi was “Alessi Watches”, with a launch that took place with the 2002 collection. But this part of the company history goes further back, to the 1980s, when two of the most famous architects who had already designed successful products for the Crusinallo-based factory were invited to work on the wristwatch theme: Achille Castiglioni and Aldo Rossi. The latter created “Momento”, a new version of which is presently included in the catalogue, while Achille Castiglioni designed “Record”, of which the present collection also includes a chronograph version. Every year the “Alessi Watches” collection ushers new additions. Ettore Sottsass designed “Ciclo” with a large crown, a dial in bright colours, and well-defined white graphics, typical of his design approach. Andrea Branzi had fun playing with the hour numerals, placing them in new and eccentric positions on or off the dial, along the crown. Indeed, the name “Out_time” is clearly evocative of the project style. The Dutch designer Wiel Arets created “watch.it”, with a strap in steel or brown leather, a matte white face, and the hours marked as if they were tiny beads of water. Miriam Mirri designed four wristwatches for the “Alessi Watches” range. “Mariposa” – “butterfly” in Spanish – in two variants, with a white or blue dial; “Millennium”, in aluminium in grey, red and violet with a leather strap to create a new light and practical combinations. The young Italian designer also created the first two watches for the Alessi Watches Kids line, “Millennium jr.” and “Space-bimba. | ![]() B005I2KDR0 Availability: Currently unavailable Score: 3.663 Category: Clothing Rating: 4.3 Votes: 127 Find similar productsSeiko Men's SSC009P3 Black Dial Flight Watch. Non radioactive long lasting luminescence dial - Dimensions: Case diameter 44.3mm - Case thickness 13.5mm - Crystal diameter 40mm Simplicity, Boldness and Functionality Torgoen was founded by an enthusiastic private pilot, Benzi Rosenski. Rosenski, also a veteran of the watch manufacturing industry, combined these two passions to create Torgoen – Professional Pilot Watches. Rosenski envisioned a line of timepieces for pilots that are functional, affordable, well designed and durable. In 1998 the first Torgoen Swiss timepieces rolled off the production line. The name Torgoen is derived from Thor, the god of thunder in Nordic mythology, and Goen which is a derivative of “go”. The name symbolizes the boldness, functionality and simplicity of design (Thor) in time keeping devices (Goen). These principles guide the Torgoen team in the creation and updating of the line. Although the design of all Torgoen watches has functionalities useful for pilots, it is also perfect for ordinary people who appreciate tangible quality and no-nonsense, yet sophisticated design. The dials have numerals, markers and indexes inspired by cockpit instruments like altimeters and speed gauges. Cockpit instruments have been a subject of ergonomic studies that go back to World War II. This is part of the functionality and boldness that guides Torgoen. E6B Flight Computer – Useful also in the supermarket In many of its models, Torgoen uses an E6B Flight Computer based on the original design by the US army during World War II. The name was simply the Catalog part number of the device. It allows the pilot to easily solve problems of speed, distance and time. By knowing two of these variables, one can deduct the third with ease. This is based on a regular slide rule which was used by some of us that attended high school before the introduction of pocket calculators. It enables the user to perform any multiplication and division calculations. It is especially good while performing conversions of units and even exchange rate calculations. The watches come with a booklet in three languages with clear instructions of how to use the E6B and examples of how the E6B will help solve calculation problems. GMT (Zulu Time) – Keeping track of home-time for travelers Torgoen incorporated in many of its models another feature that is commonly used by pilots and favored by watch enthusiasts - a second time zone displayed in a 24 hour format. Communications between the cockpit and air traffic controllers always use GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) as a common standard. It avoids confusion by pilots arriving at an airport from different time zones. Every time zone in the globe has a designated letter. GMT was designated with the letter Z and pilots call it Zulu time since Zulu is the phonetic alphabet for Z. It is also useful for travelers crossing different time zones who wish to keep their home-time handy and easily displayed on their watches. Today the Torgoen brand includes 12 series in its line-up with over 61 different versions. Considering the components and materials used, we feel that this brand is one of the best values in the market today. Torgoen Academy As part of the contribution and commitment to the aviation industry, Torgoen sponsors the Torgoen Academy for flight safety. The academy’s curriculum delivers specialized flight training to both private and commercial pilots that will increase aviation safety by teaching aviators essential recovery and survival skills not normally offered in either primary or advanced flight training. The Torgoen Academy’s training makes pilots safer by teaching them to deal with departures from normal flight, upsets due to turbulence and mechanical failures. Following a structured syllabus, pilots develop the ability to keep a cool head while applying techniques learned in the school’s aerobatic training aircraft to resolve the situation at hand. We literally turn pilot’s upside-down in real airplanes in order to give them the confidence to fix the problem without the panic. | ![]() B00596EQC8 Price: $148 Score: 3.650 Category: Clothing Rating: 4 Votes: 4 Find similar productsTommy Hilfiger Women's 1781129 Sport Stainless Steel Cobalt Blue Silicon Watch. The History of Tommy Hilfiger In 1969, Tommy Hilfiger began his retail career while still in high school with $125 and 20 pairs of bell-bottom jeans. This entrepreneurial spirit mixed with raw talent led him to establish a small chain of retail stores, where he designed the clothes people wanted but could never find. In 1985, Hilfiger introduced his signature collection of menswear. Since its inception, the Tommy Hilfiger brand has been built on a powerful design philosophy: Adding fresh, new perspective to traditional, all-American stylings. From menswear and womenswear to licensing agreements in accessories, footwear, fragrance and more, Tommy Hilfiger has become a fashion icon. Tommy Hilfiger Watches Classic, American, Cool It was only a matter of time before Tommy Hilfiger took on the world of watches. Inspired by his father who worked 42 years as a watchmaker in the jewelry business, Tommy Hilfiger was driven to design his own watch collection. Putting his extraordinary talents and infallible fashion instincts to the test, Tommy Hilfiger stepped into the role of watch designer. His goal was to offer the precise, reliable performance of a quality timepiece as well as the classic American style for which his sportswear was so well known. Hilfiger set out to create fashion watches of unmistakable style and exceptional value, and thats exactly what he did. In 1999, Tommy Hilfiger entered into an exclusive, ongoing licensing agreement with Movado Group, Inc. for the well known watch company to design, manufacture and distribute Tommy Hilfiger Watches worldwide. Meticulously designed to complement the Tommy Hilfiger lifestyle and brand aesthetic, the launch collection combined a cool, classic sophistication with quality craftsmanship. Battery Information A Tommy Hilfiger quartz analog watch has a 1.55-Volt silver-oxide battery. It is specially designed for watches and will last approximately 18-36 months under normal use. NOTE: Frequent use of special functions, like the stopwatch timer on chronograph models, may shorten battery life. Water Resistance All Tommy Hilfiger watches meet international standards for water resistance to 3 ATM, so faucet spray or rain wont damage them as long as the case, crown and crystal remain intact. DO NOT press the push-buttons on a chronograph model when the watch is under water, or it will not remain water resistant. NOTE: We recommend that you do not get your leather strap wet. Exposing leather to water can cause premature wear and deterioration. The art of Movado is the art of design. Since its founding in 1881 by 19-year old entrepreneur Achille Ditesheim in the village of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Movado has achieved a legacy of design innovation, earning more than 100 patents and 200 international awards for artistry and innovation in watch design and time technology. Movado, meaning always in motion in the international language of Esperanto, is the hallmark of some of the most famous timepieces ever created: the 1912 Polyplan, its revolutionary, patented movement constructed on three planes to fit a case curved to follow the wrist…the WWI Soldier’s Watch with its elegant, protective grill…the 1927 Ermeto, a capsule-shaped pocket watch wound by the sliding motion of its case…the innovative 1950’s Kingmatic series of rotor-driven automatics…the Movado Artist’s Series by luminaries of the fine art world…and the Movado Museum® Watch with its legendary dial. Defined by a single dot at 12 representing the sun at high noon, the Museum Watch dial is regarded as an icon of Modernism. It was designed by Bauhaus-influenced artist Nathan George Horwitt in 1947. When Horwitt’s dial was selected for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1960, it was the first watch dial ever awarded this distinction. The name Museum Watch derives from this recognition. Today, Movado watches are in prominent museums worldwide, and this legendary dial distinguishes an entire collection of singular timepieces. The Movado Boutiques extend the Movado brand philosophy of design innovation beyond watches to a range of products for modern living. Exclusive offerings include the proprietary and patented 114-facet Movado Diamond™ jewelry collection, Movado’s own modern 18K gold, diamond, sterling silver and gemstone jewelry, signature pens and personal accessories, Movado clocks and fine Swiss watches.
