The Country House Collection Country House Collection 90585 Burgundy Farmhouse Star Lined Swag, 36-inch. In October 1985, Norma and Mike Delano opened The Country House in Snow Hill, Maryland. Mike was a former agricultural fertilizer salesman, and Norma was a second grade teacher. Norma quit teaching in 1972 to be a Mom to Christy and Jenny. Norma painted and sewed crafts more as the girls got older. Mike and Norma did craft shows each year. The idea of opening a store to show their handmade products as well as decorating items not available in the area came together when they opened The Country House in Snow Hill. Because of a great response at the Snow Hill store, they moved to a larger place in Salisbury, MD. After another year, they doubled that space to 5,000 sq. feet. Then after 3 years, they bought the current location, which is a 48,000 sq. foot building. It was originally built in the 1930's to be a shirt factory. It needed major repair. The family, including grandparents, plus several carpenter friends did a lot of work to prepare it to be a store. In the early 2000's, The Country House Collection had an opportunity to develop some fabric curtains and linens, to be made in India. Christy and Jenny worked along with Norma and Mike to build this collection, which now includes a broad selection of metal pieces and other household goods.

They say it is Worth the Trip! No matter what your style, there is a huge selection of unique merchandise. The Country House is not just for the lovers of country décor. So, family and many long time employees make The Country House work. A major loss came with the loss of Christy to cancer in Sept. 2015. We are thankful that Billy, Jenny's husband joined the business full-time in 2016. Billy and Jenny have two kids. Their kids are growing up to be future helpers. We look forward to having them continue the legacy, working toge.

Manual Woodworkers & Weavers Tapestry Table Runner, O' Holy Night. Table runner with stunning nativity scene will add a holiday touch to your table. Made in the USA. Look for Manual's extensive line of home decor, tapestries, wall hangings, women's fashion accessories and more. Although Thomas Lemuel Oates started Manual Woodworkers & Weavers in 1932, the story goes back further. The roots of the company can be found in Oates' entrepreneurial spirit. He and his brother used to farm the mountain areas of Bat Cave in western North Carolina. They would also help their mother find materials for her crafts. The sons began to make wooden whistles, buckets and bird-houses. They would sell their wares along with her crafts to the people from Charlotte that came through in their horse-drawn buggies on the way to the mountains. Later, Thomas worked at the Ashville Postcard Company. When the Depression hit, he lost his job, but it inspired him to go into business and sell crafts, like cornhusk dolls and woven pieces, that were produced by the local women. He had learned about the wholesale business while working at Ashville. He built a waterwheel to generate electricity at a mill, began making product and opened shop. Over the years, he expanded the company. His son, Lemuel Oates, who would next manage the company, says he worked in the business from a young age. He explains the products were made from cotton scraps left over from making socks. Half-inch circles would be looped together to form a variety of products. Lemuel Oates went to college and then settled in Richmond. In December 1973, he returned to Bat Cave and took over the company. In 2007 his son Travis and his daughter, Molly Oates Sherrill, took over the business.

Classic Rug Collection Flat Weave Hand-Woven Cotton Rug | Gee’s Bend Quilt Inspired Collection | “BJ” by Loretta Bennett. Classic and Elegant Home Décor These unique creatively designed rugs are the work of Barbara Barran. In addition to designing rugs for private clients around the globe, she has done major installations for the Chateau de Courtomer in France and the Presidential Suites at the Anjun Hotel in Mecca. 80% of Barbara’s rugs are one-of-a-kind. Barbara has translated the works of major artists such as Julian Schnabel, Barbara Bloom, and the Gee’s Bend Quilters into fascinating, hand-made rugs, which have been exhibited in major museums throughout the world. The Metropolitan Museum in NYC commissioned Barbara to design two, limited-edition rugs for their “Court and Cosmos: the Great Age of the Seljuk Turks.” exhibit. It was the first time that the museum commissioned original rugs based on works in their collection. Barbara has designed rugs based on American art, Art Deco motifs, classic Eastern geometrics, and mosaics. Her work has been shown in exhibits in Dubai, Frankfurt, Paris, and NYC; more than 25 museums have shown and sold Barbara’s work. Sourced with Care and Passion Selecting from the finest rug manufacturers in the world to bring her designs to life, Barbara commissions hand-knotted and hand-tufted rugs made of New Zealand wool, pashmina, hemp, nettle, linen, mohair, and natural silk. She finds the technique—and the price point—that best suits her clients. All of Barbara’s rugs use natural fibers and carry the Goodweave label, guaranteeing that they are child-labor-free. The Gee’s Bend quilters receive a royalty for the use of their designs on our rugs.
