Blowing Sands Glass Studio is an active part of the Seattle glass arts community. David Smith, owner/lead glass blower, was introduced to the art of glass blowing while studying for a degree in Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. After graduating in 1983, he returned to Seattle and started working full-time as a glass blower. Four years later, he bought a one-way ticket to China, traveled across Asia and the Soviet Union, and spent 5 years living and working with artists in Finland, Germany, France and Ireland. He returned to Seattle and established his own studio/hot-shop in the Ballard neighborhood. His work is an extension of his technical background in glass science and his love of the traditions and history of glass blowing throughout the world. Attention is taken in each step: Gathering clear glass from the furnace, melting on layers of colored glass, and sculpting the sea star. | ![]() B016XCYOGO Availability: Currently unavailable Score: 4.587 Category: Home Rating: 5 Votes: 2 Find similar productsSailing Ship Kite. ABOUT THE ARTIST: To me, art is the gateway between reality and dreams. When I look at a piece of art, I am transported from my current state of being to the place or thing the artist has depicted. Sometimes, the way the paint strokes are applied, how it's composed, or which colors dominate the image, I feel warm, sad, excited, cold, angry, or happy. Great art will draw me into the world that the artist envisioned, evoke an emotion, and hold my attention long enough to form questions in my head about what is real and what is fantasy. Patrick was born and raised in Southern California in the beach community of Torrance. There he attended kindergarten through high school. His college years were spent at Loyola Marymount University in West Los Angeles, where he majored in Fine Art and Graphic Design, while also playing for the Men's Division I Soccer team. It was in these years that Patrick started to grow a passion for art. He has always had excellent hand-eye coordination with pen and paper, but had never really expanded his visual thinking. With the study of past artists and guidance from his teachers, Patrick became more creative in his process. Painting and drawing took a back seat out of college as Patrick tried his hand in the design world to try to make a living. After working one year as an Art Director at a boutique advertising agency in Santa Monica, Patrick and a couple of his close friends packed up and headed to the Caribbean for a year. In St. Thomas he spent most of his days relaxing in the sun, surfing, fishing, hiking, snorkeling, and, oh yeah, working a little bit on the beach at The Ritz-Carlton or pulling up the sails on a 65-foot catamaran. | ![]() B07LG6QGCK Price: $69.62 Score: 4.484 Category: Home Rating: 5 Votes: 1 Find similar productsTrademark Fine Art, 24x32 Purple Iris Garden On Grey by Albena Hristova. Shortly after graduation Albena created several large murals. Albena’s first solo art show was in 1987. During time in Europe, Albena participated every year at Art Basel - the most prestigious modern art show in the world. Corporate and private collectors bought all her art before every show opening. In 1990 Albena moved to Southern California with her family. During the first few years in the USA Albena had several solo shows in Washington, DC, Los Angeles and Chicago and sold her original art to private collectors. During this period she had great success selling her originals, but she also realized how few people have access to her art across the globe. Albena’s vision and ambition was to touch as many people as it was possible in her lifetime. She needed a different channel to realize her dreams. In 2000, Albena discovered the world of art publishing. In New York, she met the owners of a wonderful company called Wild Apple Graphics and as they say the rest is history. Manual Woodworkers and Weavers brings you a fresh way to display your favorite images and showcase inspiring message with their collection of hanging wall art with included finial hanging rod. Although Thomas Lemuel Oates started Manual Woodworkers and Weavers in 1932, the story goes back further. The roots of the company can be found in Oates' entrepreneurial spirit. He and his brother used to farm the mountain areas of Bat Cave in western North Carolina. They would also help their mother find materials for her crafts. The sons began to make wooden whistles, buckets and bird-houses. They would sell their wares along with her crafts to the people from Charlotte that came through in their horse-drawn buggies on the way to the mountains. Later, Thomas worked at the Ashville Postcard Company. When the Depression hit, he lost his job, but it inspired him to go into business and sell crafts, like cornhusk dolls and woven pieces, that were produced by the local women. He had learned about the wholesale business while working at Ashville. He built a waterwheel to generate electricity at a mill, began making product and opened shop. Over the years, he expanded the company. His son, Lemuel Oates, who would next manage the company, says he worked in the business from a young age. He explains the products were made from cotton scraps left over from making socks. Half-inch circles would be looped together to form a variety of products. Lemuel Oates went to college and then settled in Richmond. In December 1973, he returned to Bat Cave and took over the company. In 2007 his son Travis and his daughter, Molly Oates Sherrill, took over the business. |

She designed the first “primitive candle box” in 1997. Crafting the box by hand, taking care into each detail from the sanded edges to the type of ribbon tied on the wire handles, each was a work of passion. Demand grew quickly for the growing line of handmade products, and Kathy enjoyed great success, it was then that she enlisted the help of the wonderful people at Goodwill Services to aid in fulfilling the increasing demand. It was at this moment that one of the most valuable philanthropic partnerships was formed and still exists to this day.
