SparkFun BLE Mate 2. This is the SparkFun BLE Mate 2, an efficient and reliable Bluetooth 4.0 development board. The BLE Mate 2 closely resembles a breakout board, in that nearly every pin on the on-board BC118 module is made available to access. This board is actually a close cousin to our Gold and Silver Bluetooth Mates and functions in a very similar way but, as the name implies, operates as Bluetooth Low Energy instead of Bluetooth 2.0. The BLE Mate 2 offers a six-pin header on the end opposite the BC118 module which is used as a “host” serial pinout, the same as that on the FTDI Basic boards, which allows the BLE Mate 2 to be connected directly to any device with a matching header, such as the SparkFun Arduino Pro and Pro Mini. Coupled with the FTDI SmartBasic, you can even develop your code without having to swap cables! The board has built-in level translation, so it can be used with boards of higher voltage than the 3.3V default used by the BC118. Each BLE Mate 2 offers BC118 module that is capable of accepting and transmitting via the UART at 9600bps (default) with a frequency band of 2,402 MHz to 2,480 MHz. The SparkFun BLE Mate 2 only supports Bluetooth 4.0; it won’t connect to older devices. It’s also worth noting that BLE does not support a Serial Port Protocol as older versions of Bluetooth did; that makes interoperability between BLE dongles, devices, and modules harder than with Bluetooth Classic.

Arduino FIO. The Arduino Funnel I/O (Fio) is a board designed by Shigeru Kobayashi, based on the original design from LilyPad. Funnel is a toolkit to sketch your idea physically, and consists of software libraries and hardware. By using Funnel, the user can interface to sensors and/or actuators with various programming languages such as ActionScript 3, Processing, and Ruby. Arduino Fio is compatible with Funnel. It has connections for a Lithium Polymer battery and includes a charge circuit over USB. An XBee socket is available on the bottom of the board. The Fio has been designed to be wirelessly reprogrammable. Checkout our tutorial on wireless bootloading! Note: The miniUSB connector is used for battery charging only. To bootload new firmware, you will need an external serial connection over an FTDI Basic, cable, or other serial connection. Note: The XBee socket and FTDI connection live on the same TX/RX pins of the ATmega328. You will need to remove the XBee module while reprogramming over serial. We recommend using a wireless bootloader whenever possible to avoid this step.

Arduino FIO V3 - ATmega32U4. The Fio v3 is a new spin on the Arduino Fio hardware powered by the ATmega32U4. While the Fio v3 is not yet compatible with the Arduino v1.0 IDE, it's still a very capable XBee-ready development board. The JST-connector and 3.3v system voltage make this a great development tool for portable devices, simply plug in a Li-Poly battery and you're ready to go. Wireless sensor networks and communication are made easy by the on-board XBee socket. The ATmega32U4, running at 8MHz, makes it possible for you to use the on-board USB jack not only to charge a connected Li-Poly battery but to actually program the device! Because this board uses a similar bootloader to the one on the Pro Micro, you will need to download and install the special software driver below. There's also a board definition add-on for the Arduino IDE which will add support for this board.

SparkFun Qwiic Micro-SAMD21 Development Board 1 inx1 in microcontroller Qwiic Connect System Micro-B USB Interface for Program Use Compatible with Arduino Platform or Python UF2 bootloader 3.3V Logic. Looking for a super small microcontroller to use with the Qwiic eco-system? The SparkFun Qwiic Micro is molded to fit our standard 1x1 Qwiic standard size which makes it one of our smallest micro-controller offerings to date. At it's core is the powerful and versatile ATSAMD21E18, which is an ARM Cortex M0+, 32-bit microcontroller, with 256KB of flash memory that can run at up to 48MHz! It has 12 digital pins which include 5 analog pins, SPI, I²C, and an additional UART data bus as well as a Qwiic connector for easy integration into the Qwiic ecosystem and I²C prototyping. On the underside of the Qwiic Micro, we've left open pads for a LiPo Battery connector that you can add yourself, if you wish you can make the micro-controller portable. We've also provided pads on the underside for a flash memory chip to maximize the board's memory capacity. The SparkFun Qwiic Micro comes programmed with a UF2 Bootloader making it easy to program with easy driver installation! If you need a tiny but mighty micro-controller for you next project check out the SparkFun Qwiic Micro. The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System is an ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields and cables that make prototyping faster and less prone to error. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector. This reduces the amount of required PCB space, and polarized connections mean you can’t hook it up wrong.
