Daphnia Live. Daphnia are small aquatic crustaceans that reach about 5mm in size, and are an excellent food source for aquatic pets, especially picky eaters! They are an excellent live food for freshwater tanks and will not pollute your tank’s water. The following lists the primary processes of how we maintain our Daphnia culture: ●Maintenance: ○Water Changes performed at least every other day replacing at least 50% of the water. ○Siphoning the bottom of tank or container that the Daphnia are living in as the food you feed them will collect down there. ○We use aged water rather than aquarium water (due to the possibility of bacteria in our aquariums that could spread to customers--if you don’t plan on selling, you can certainly use your own aquarium water). ■Note: do not use plain freshwater or freshwater that has been treated with Prime as this can kill the culture. ●Feeding: ○We feed them Brewer’s Yeast once a day. It’s time to feed them when the water is clear. If the water isn’t clearing in a couple of days at most, you are likely overfeeding them. ○We use a brine shrimp net to filter out the bigger particles of yeast when feeding (hold the net over the culture and pour the yeast mixture into it). ○Combine the yeast in a small container with aged water or aquarium water. Mix well. ■We don’t actually use a ratio of yeast to water, but will feed until we can no longer see the bottom of the Daphnia container. ■Start small and add more yeast as needed to meet the above specification. ●Additional Tips: ○Avoid having only one culture. It’s safer to maintain at least 2 in the event that the one crashes. It’s very common that cultures crash. ○More volume of water is better for the survival of the culture (we keep ours in 20+ gallon tanks and containers). ○Not necessary, but helpful: ■Lightly aerated water, in our experience, has promoted Daphnia reproduction.

Small Aquarium Driftwood (3-6 Inches). Though most driftwood will remain submerged underwater, some driftwood remains slightly buoyant until it is fully saturated and waterlogged. Soak the driftwood in a large bucket as long as possible making sure the entire piece is completely underwater. A minimum period of 1 to 2 weeks is recommended to allow total saturation. Soaking also allows excess tannins that can darken and discolor the water, to leach out. The discoloration caused by the tannins will not harm your aquarium inhabitants but it will lower the pH slightly over time. Some hobbyists take advantage of this feature and utilize the tannins to achieve soft water conditions preferred by many tropical fish. Bleeding Heart Tetras Monitor the soaking driftwood regularly to see if the water needs to be changed. As the water darkens, empty all of the water and gently rinse the driftwood. Fill the bucket with clean dechlorinated or RO water and continue soaking the driftwood. As you repeat this process, you will notice that the water will be less tea-stained. When you no longer notice any significant discoloration for several days in a row, the driftwood is ready for placement. Boiling Driftwood: Boiling driftwood has several benefits. Just like steeping a tea bag in hot water, boiling driftwood in a large stockpot encourages more tannins to leech out faster, thereby shortening the curing process. More importantly, boiling sterilizes the driftwood.

Penn-Plax Aquaponic Planter and Aquarium for Betta Fish | Tank Promotes Healthy Hydroponic Environment for Plants and Fish. PENN-PLAX presents the 1.4 Gallon Aqua-Ponic Fish Tank and Planter. Each fish tank is made from ultra-clear plastic, and replicates nature’s metabolic cycle by providing a healthy and symbiotic environment for fish and plants: as fish excrete waste in the tank, the plant atop absorbs this waste as nourishment, which in turn cleans the tank’s water. For those more interested in growing plants hydroponically, our tanks can also be used strictly as a planter, allowing you to add your own nutrients. Suggested Fish: While Bettas are the most popular fish for our 1.4 Gallon Aqua-Ponic Tank, they can also house Bloodfin Tetras, White Cloud Minnows, Danios, and Guppies (1 – 3 fish). For Bettas, please decrease the water level an inch, giving them enough space to breath from the water’s surface. Suggested Plants: Most indoor house plants and kitchen herbs are suitable for planting atop. This includes Peace Lily, Chinese Evergreen, Lucky Bamboo, English Ivy, Mint, Watercress, Chives, or any leafy Lettuce. We recommend using established plants instead of starting from seed. Please research desired plant’s toxicity and nutritional requirements before using, since fish may nibble on the roots. Please note that the plant is not a source of food for fish. Any fish food can be used but avoid overfeeding as this can cloud water, and harm both fish and the plant. Additional Features: Our Aqua-Ponic Tanks come with ceramic planting media, which retains water and supports root growth for any plant you chose. Place larger pieces on the bottom of the enclosed pot, ensuring that small pieces won’t accidently fall into the aquarium. To add water into the tank, simply water the plant, as if it’s in a pot of soil. Items Included: Plastic Tank Lid with Enclosed Pot Ceramic Planting Media.

Live Marine Phytoplankton - (x4) 8oz Bottles. Nannochloropsis is a beneficial micro algae found throughout the world's oceans. This live phytoplankton has been cultured from an Agar sample, using the industry-standard Guillard f/2 medium formula to promote exponential growth, high nutrient retention, and longer viability. The genus Nannochloropsis is widely accepted as the standard for reef keeping aquarists, to promote the growth and vibrancy of corals, invertebrates, and other filter feeder livestock. This live phytoplankton may be used as an inoculant to propagate additional quantities, if desired. At Mercer of Montana, we adhere to the highest standards of sterile laboratory protocols, to ensure that each bottle of dense, vitamin rich Phytoplankton is contaminant-free. To obtain best results when feeding systemically, Mercer of Montana suggests the daily addition of 2-3ml to every 40 gallons of saltwater in your system, pouring directly into the display tank, or associated sump (the cap on this bottle will hold approximately .5 oz). Protein skimmer should be turned off during this time, to allow more of your phytoplankton to be absorbed by your livestock. Additionally, or in place of systemic feeding, this Phytoplankton may also be fed to your livestock directly, in order to target specific recipients. You may notice a small green cloud form when pouring into your water. This is normal and will disperse immediately throughout your system. To extend the viability of the contents past the 7-day growth cycle, remember to refrigerate contents immediately upon receipt and invert bottle(s) once daily. In this manner, contents should retain potency for up to 28 days. We always filter when bottling this Phytoplankton, so you know you're adding the highest level of purity to your livestock and display water.

Infusoria .. Fresh Large 10 oz Active Culture .. Live Food for Tiny Fry-Betta. When using infusoria as food for fry you need to keep in mind that infusoria are microscopic so even a small amount of water from the culture jar will contain many infusoria. For this reason, it is important that you do not add too much infusoria water to your fry tank at one time because the uneaten infusoria will die and could pollute your tank. The easiest way to harvest infusoria is to use an eye dropper to collect a small amount of water from the top of the culture and to squirt it directly into the fry tank. You should plan to feed your fry small amounts of water from the infusoria culture at least twice a day so they will grow quickly.
